Bisk CPA Review. : Business Environment & Concepts – 38th Edition 2009-2010 (Comprehensive CPA Exam Review. Business Environment & Concepts) (Paperback) I recently ordered two review guides for the CPA exam. I ordered the Bisk Review. for the BEC portion of the test because it looked like a comprehensive study guide for this section and because they offered a supplemental study cd (according to sales literature). I received two copies of the cd after ordering online. Both copies were defective and unusable so I threw them out – disappointing but no cost to me. I have gotten about halfway through the study guide and it is also disappointing in several ways. There are study questions that I answered incorrectly and in the answer review, the editors state that the correct answer on the CPA exam was ‘a’ but they added another answer, ‘e’, that they think is more accurate. I think it would be more helpful to study based on the answers that the CPA exam uses, not the subjective extra answers that Bisk adds. However, the biggest problem with this book is that the interior is completely messed up. As I was reviewing my answers to the fourth chapter, I found that I was missing the pages for about half of the questions. The next three chapters are all jumbled up and I’m not sure how I will be able to piece them together to make them usable. As this item took a long time to ship to me, I don’t have time to return and send for a new copy, so I will rely more on the Wiley Exam Review. that I also purchased. I had planned to buy the Bisk review for other CPA sections if I liked it but after this experience, I will not buy another Bisk review. The questions are very similar to the Wiley review which is not defective. I only give this book 2 stars because the sections that were usable were okay for studying but it is unfortunately incomplete. |

I scored 88 on AUD back then, and I would like to share my thoughts on the pros and cons of the latest Bisk CPA review book on AUD. Hope you will find it helpful.PROS1. Endorsed By Big 4. Bisk is endorsed by two of the Big 4 for self-study guides (but for live classes all the Big 4 endorse Becker). Please note however that the endorsement isn’t applied to the book itself but to the overall self-study package.2. It’s cheap! When compared to the full guided review course, the Bisk CPA review book is a very affordable option. You should buy the Bisk book at Amazon vs their site because of the discount.CONS1. Mixed Review . s. Despite its claim as the ‘America’s Best CPA Review . Since 1971′, Bisk has received mixed reviews based on my readers’ feedback as well as those from other CPA exam forums. General complaints include the book being hard to read and difficult to understand. Despite the book being pretty big with 1,056 pages (vs 2012 Wiley AUD’s 676 pages), some candidates find Bisk underprepares them to the extent that they have to buy an extra review course as replacement or supplement.2. Minimal Discussion On Tactics? For competitors such as Wiley and Gleim, they dedicate a few pages on how you can tackle the CPA exam. There is also a ‘getting started’ section at Bisk but the content is relatively weak in my opinion.3. You Only Need One Book. Some candidates bought both Wiley and Bisk (and also Gleim) for their CPA exam preparations. In my opinion the books are very similar in terms of the practice questions so you can consider just buy the better one in terms of readability.CONCLUSIONI am sure many students get Bisk and pass the CPA exam. But these students are likely very disciplined with a good knowledge in accounting.If this is not an accurate description of you, I highly recommend that you also check out all types of review courses available, including Wiley and Gleim CPA exam review books, together with the full guided review courses (either live classes or the online/DVD self-study with hotline / chat room to answer candidates’ questions).Best of luck to your exam! |

Other CPA review books that I have used have presented a topic and then presented questions to allow you to evaluate how well you have learned the material on that specific topic. Using the results of your performance on these questions, one could identify the weak areas where they need additional study work before the exam.The questions in the Wiley book that follow the modules do not necessarily evaluate how well the reader learned the material in that module. Wiley’s questions seem to be made up of past CPA exam questions that use concepts from multiple accounting topics. Therefore, there are many questions that cover topics that the reader has not yet gotten to. This makes the questions useless in determining how well they learned the material in the specific module that they just covered.A better way of organizing the book, specifically with regard to the review questions, would have been to arrange the book by topic and make sure that comprehensive questions that cover multiple topics relate only to topics that have already been covered by a user going through the modules in order from first to last.The FAR section of the exam covers a lot of complex material, and to successfully review this material, one needs to break it into manageable sections. I don’t think that the review questions in the Wiley book are organized in a way that allows a user to review and evaluate their knowledge of the material in a methodical way that makes the amount of material manageable. |

Finally, I decided to get Bisk CPA Review./a> Textbook as one of my review materials. It’s been a month since I bought this book and I find it good enough. The only thing I don’t like is that Bisk did not give me my free software as indicated in the cover page of the book. They said that the U.S. Postal Service is not sending to our place. I don’t believe them because this is a U.S. Territory. But it’s fine because I already ordered Wiley CPA Review./a> Test Bank for the software. I have a feeling that the combination of Bisk Textbooks and Wiley’s software are the best review materials. Good enough and no need to spend thousands of dollars.  |
